City Guide To Chiang Mai, Thailand

The city of Chiang Mai is the fifth largest city in Thailand, and a very popular tourist destination in the northern region of the country. The weather here is much cooler in temperature and the atmosphere is more laid back which is why most travelers who visit often stay longer than they anticipated.

With that being said, you can book a Chiang Mai hotel last minute and still get affordable price that fits within your budget.

It’s also a popular place for westerners to settle down for a few years, as it’s cheap and comfortable – if you find yourself in this part of Thailand, here are three things to do in Chiang Mai…

Get Templed Out

There is an abundance of temples in Chiang Mai, and while you won’t have the time or energy to visit every single one of them, there are at least a couple which are well worth your time.

The most famous of all temples is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, perched on a hill outside of the city center, built in 1383.

Try A Cooking Course

There are many cooking courses to choose from in Chiang Mai, and they’re both informative and fun. You get to learn the basics of Thai cooking and depending on which course you take, you get to make a variety of Thai foods to enjoy when finished cooking.

Most courses also take you to the market to talk about the vegetables and fruits they use in their cooking.

Spend a Day With The Elephants

There are a number of elephant sanctuaries around Chiang Mai, where you can spend time with these huge animals and get a whole new understanding of them.

We would suggest visiting one that doesn’t make the elephants perform stupid acts like painting and other circus events, but one that truly cares for the animals and respect them, giving them a higher quality of life.
