Course 424   Beginning Drawing -- Thursday, October 1, 2009   6 to 9 pm

Enhance your life by learning how to draw. During class, you'll learn about art materials and what you can do with them.  Try out various papers, media, methods.  Learn basic forms, lines and marks that create texture and dimension.  The group will work on a personal drawing in class.  Bring a favorite postcard image or use materials provided by the instructor. 

Course 427   Mixed Media Collage Workshop for Beginners  -- Thursday, October 15, 2009   6 to 9 pm

During class, we'll create a work of contemporary interest using materials such as postcards, newspaper clippings, stickers, photographs, stamps, children's artwork, paper artifacts, letters and graphics.  No need to know how to draw although fine art materials can be used to enhance the collage. Courses are offered at First Class, 1726 20th St. NW, Washington, DC    Fee $45 or $35 for members..

TRAVEL WRITING --

9 week UCLA credit course starts July 7, 2009 runs to September 1, 2009

A lively online forum for travel writing techniques which brings an expert travel author and class participants together.   Transform notes from a weekend trip, vacation, or other travel experience into features for websites, newspapers or magazines. Course content includes tips for capturing atmosphere, color, and mood with words and camera. Students practice writing queries, features and essays, and receive editorial critiques and marketing suggestions for their work. Topics include research methods; information sources; reporting techniques; markets; developing story focus; and deciding on length, content, and style.
